Ep. 10 | Say Hello To My Little Friend

Rev meanders down to the kitchen to inform Justine that JoJo's in New York with the rest of Team Blackout signing their deal with K1X shoes. Before Justine can respond, Russy comes running in as he masterfully juggles several balls in the air. Seeing that they're impressed, Russy asks Justine to take him to the "World Of Fun" store. Rev shoots it down immediately, saying Russy's had too much fun and needs to focus on one trick at a time.

Back in LA, Vanessa is looking for the wrapping paper and almost gets crushed by the avalanche of boxes and purses that fall out of the closet when she opens it. Apparently Angela ran out of room in her closet and took over the luggage closet. Vanessa thinks Angela may have a shopping problem and suggests that she find another hobby.

JoJo returns to the house, with K1X exec Cesar and a ton of shoes. The guys are so pumped about it that Cesar has JoJo sign the first pair of "JoJo autographed edition" of K1X shoes for Rev. Rev's proud of his son but makes JoJo promise not to blow all the money right away. It's a good warning, considering that JoJo already drew up a chain he wants to have designed for himself.

Instead of listening to Rev, Justine takes Russy to the "World Of Fun" store where he becomes instantly enamored with magician Daniel's magic tricks. Besides making a little disc fly around the store, Daniel somehow gets Russy to pick the same King of Clubs card three times -- and of course, a magician never reveals his secrets! Russy immediately decides to make magic his newest hobby.

When Angela goes through Vanessa's closet to find an outfit to borrow, she realizes that Vanessa may have a shopping problem too. Besides having tons of clothes that still have the tags on them, Vanessa admits to going to a store earlier that week to buy a tank top and coming out with three bags of clothes. The girls agree that they both have issues with shopping and could probably use some help.

Russy returns home to show off one of his new magic tricks to his dad. Rev is amused that Russy can change a hanky into a wand, but not impressed to learn that Justine has bought him a ton of new magic tricks. Between the guitar, the skateboard and the magic tricks, Rev is concerned that Justine is buying Russy too much stuff and he's never going to learn to stick with one hobby. To prove his dedication to magic, Rev encourages Russy to put on a show using every trick that Justine has bought him.

Following through on their desire to get help, Vanessa and Angela go to see a therapist about their shopping habit. Vanessa admits that it's to the point that she feels bad whenever she leaves a store, where as Angela's problem is the opposite -- she feels great when she leaves a store, but she always ends up buying way more than what she intended to. To try and get the girls to master their control while shopping, the therapist encourages them to go into a store and buy just one thing instead of several.

Russy tells Diggy about the magic show that Rev wants him to put on and tells him he needs an assistant. When Diggy suggests that Russy doesn't know any real magic, Russy grabs a dollar bill and makes it float between his hands on its own, finally impressing his big brother.

Vanessa and Angela head to a boutique to try and buy just one item, but immediately get into trouble when Angela decides that a bag with the store's logo doesn't count as an item since she can put whatever she's buying into the bag. Then Angela reasons that buying one outfit counts as one item, because they clearly can't buy a pair of jeans without the shirt to go with it! Vanessa finally draws the line when Angela suggests that they could buy each other gifts too, since the therapist didn't say anything about buying stuff for other people.

Like Diggy, JoJo is hesitant to buy Russy as a real magician until he shows him a trick. Ever the talent, Russy shows how he can make two magical coins go from black to white to red and yellow. Then Russy tells his brother that if he wants to see more, he'll have to buy him more tricks. Because JoJo's feeling generous (and just got a big check from his shoe deal), he agrees to take Russy back to the store. Still, Russy needs an assistant for his magic show. JoJo won't be the assistant, but he'll be Russy's manager and will buy him an assistant.

The girls go back to their therapist and come clean about buying one outfit instead of one item. Vanessa admits that even in the store, she felt bad knowing she'd have to tell the therapist about their slip-up. When the therapist asks if Vanessa has ever felt like someone else was watching over her shoulder in this way, Angela and Vanessa realize that they might be shopping so much because for the first time in their lives, their dad isn't around to tell them not to. The therapist thinks being homesick might be at the root of the girls' shopping problems and suggests that they call their family to talk about what's going on.

Back from the magic store, Russy and JoJo sneak up on Rev to surprise him with Russy's latest toy: a ventriloquist doll. Rev gives JoJo trouble for spending more money on Russy, and not even for magic tricks! But Russy shows that he's already capable of working the doll and throwing his voice and Rev decides he can't be too mad at JoJo for investing in his brother.

The girls call up Rev to tell him about their shopping addiction, but Rev doesn't completely understand the issue. They get JoJo on the phone, who doesn't get the shopping addiction either and laughs when the girls explain that they shop because they miss their family. JoJo suggests they move back, but the girls say they don't want to do that. Angela admits that the conversation only made her want to shop more.

JoJo finds Russy diligently practicing with his dummy and is glad to see his money's not going to waste. When Russy heads off to practice elsewhere, JoJo tells Rev that Vanessa and Angela's speech on family has inspired him on how to spend his money: he's going to bring his mom and family in from Queens for a big family dinner and have Russy be the entertainment. Rev likes the idea, so long as JoJo invests the rest of his money wisely.

Justine is equally enthusiastic about the big family dinner. Like Rev, she thought he'd spend the money on his car or something extravagant! She asks if the girls will be joining them and Rev tells her that JoJo thinks that the girls should stay in LA and focus on their "healing." Rev, however, thinks JoJo's just trying to save a buck.

JoJo gathers his two families together at a New Jersey Marriott and quickly introduces "The Great Russy-ni." After doing a few tricks, Russy brings out his lovely assistant (courtesy of JoJo), Lauren. From card tricks to bending a spoon with his mind, Russy wows the crowd with his magic. Then, he busts out Dave the dummy to show off his ventriloquism skills. For his grand finale, Russy makes Lauren disappear. When he pulls the curtain back, he reveals Angela and Vanessa in from LA! JoJo leads a toast to the whole family being together again, at least for a little bit. Looks like he wasn't looking to save a dollar after all!

Back at the house, Rev asks the girls how much this "therapy thing" is going to cost. They haven't gotten the bill yet, but Angela thinks that since they're in therapy because they miss the family, the family should pay for the therapy. Rev thinks that since JoJo has learned how to spend his money wisely, it's time for the girls to figure that out too.

Even a little financial discussion can't take the smile off Rev's face. He tells Justine that he's overwhelmed with all the family love burning in the house. He's actually touched at how much the girls miss the family and impressed with Russy's magic skills.

"Does your family complete you? Mine does. Life affords no greater privilege than living amongst the ones you love. Remember, a house is made of walls and ceilings, but a home is made of loving feelings. It's good to be home! God is love."

Ep. 9 | That Guy

Justine emerges poolside to find Rev freaking out because the pool cleaner he purchased has stopped working. Justine is tired of hearing Rev obsess over the machine, but Rev reveals that he's also stressed because Russell wants him to come to the office to chat about Russ Philanthropic. Apparently, Rev's big brother thinks he's messing up with the board and Justine agrees that he hasn't been pulling his weight with the board.

Back in Los Angeles, Vanessa gives Angela trouble for never being at the apartment anymore. Looks like Angela has landed herself a new boyfriend and has even traded in her Elle's for Skateboarding Magazine to impress him. Vanessa's happy for her sis, but claims she's taking control of Angela's dog since Angela's been around so little.

At the Argyle Culture offices in New York, Russell meets with Rabbi Schneier about working together to strengthen the bond between Jews and African Americans. Rev arrives partway through the meeting, but Russell thinks his timing is perfect. Russell begins to lecture Rev about how there's only twelve seats on the charity's board, so it's very important for all the board members to carry their own weight and bring money in for the cause. It's Russell's polite way of suggesting Rev might want to step down, but Rev's adamant about staying on the board. If that means stepping up his game and planning something big for the charity, Rev's ready to do so.

Angela brings her new boyfriend (pro skateboarder Terry Kennedy) back to the apartment to hang out there. The dogs start fighting with each other and Vanessa claims it's because they want Angela to be at "girl's night." Vanessa's been planning all week and she tells Angela she expects her at all the activities -- dinner, clubbing, shopping, everything. Vanessa likes Terry but she misses her sister!

Rev confides in Russy about his brother badgering him with the charity. Unfortunately, Rev can't come up with a good plan for bringing money into the charity like he promised to do. Russy suggests that maybe his dad should auction him off -- after all, who wouldn't one Russy's smiling mug?!

Girl's weekend has arrived and Vanessa's friends have arrived that the apartment, dogs in tow. The only thing missing? Angela. Vanessa confesses that she hates when girls get all wrapped up in a new relationship and neglect their female friendships. Her friends suggest that maybe Vanessa should just cry to get Angela's attention, but Vanessa knows that's not the way to get to her sister.

Russy asks Rev to explain to JoJo how he's in trouble with Uncle Russell. Rev is not happy about the wording and even less happy when JoJo points out that Rev's getting an "F" in charity -- and Rev doesn't tolerate for bad grades in his house! To make matters worse, the boys recruit Diggy to come up with a "Kicked Off The Board" song. The taunting makes Rev all the more determined to succeed with the charity.

As the girls continue with their weekend of fun, Vanessa is highly annoyed that Angela flaked out on the shopping excursion without talking to anyone. When Vanessa calls her about it, Angela admits that she's at the gym with her trainer...and Terry. Vanessa warns that she better not miss dinner and Angela promises she won't. Still, Vanessa's not happy about her sister being all "boo'd up."

JoJo finds Rev rummaging through the basement for his old plaques and memorabilia to give to the charity auction. JoJo can't believe that Rev would give away such treasures, but Rev claims he's more comfortable giving away his valuables than asking his friends for theirs. Still, JoJo thinks his dad needs to get more creative instead of giving away the priceless articles that made his career.

True to her word, Angela makes dinner...and brings Terry along. Terry wonders why he's there if it was supposed to be a girl's night and Angela places the blame on herself. Still, since he was the one who invaded girl's night, Terry offers to foot the bill for dinner and earns himself some points. Unfortunately, as soon as the bill is paid, Angela ditches the girls to go get Pinkberry with Terry. Once they've left, Vanessa comments on how they shouldn't hold Terry accountable -- it's Angela who blew off her girls for a boy. Vanessa vows to talk to Angela about it but not let it ruin their girl's weekend.

Rev asks Russy to leave the office so he can focus on calling people for Russ Philanthropic. He's still struggling with the idea of calling people up and asking for money, but Russy points out that if he wants to stay on the board, he's got to get to work! Inspired, Rev picks up the phone and starts making calls.

Later on, Rev tells Justine about his new plan. He's talked with some of their friends at Marquis Jets and is going to meet with them about donating some of their hourly flights to Russ Philanthropic. Justine likes the idea but warns Rev to be careful -- they're master salesmen over there!

Vanessa calls Angela out for bringing Terry to the girl's-only dinner. Angela didn't think it was a big deal, but Vanessa expresses her frustration about Angela blowing off girl's weekend for someone she won't even admit is her boyfriend. She congratulates Angela on her boyfriend but admits that she misses hanging out with her sister. Exasperated, Angela agrees to find more time to hang out.

Rev goes to meet with Jesse and Kenny at Marquis Jet and confesses that he hasn't been doing his job as a board member for Russ Philanthropic. The guys admit that Rev was coming to renew his contract with Marquis Jet, not ask for money from them. But they claim that as soon as Rev cuts them a check, they'll give one to his charity. Rev thinks they're playing some "Jedi mind-tricks" on him, but signs the contract since it means putting him back in Russell's good graces.

Angela finally separates herself from Terry to go shopping with Vanessa and the girls. After they've checked out some of the merchandise, Angela sits the girls down so she can apologize for not being around for girl's weekend. She gives a special shout-out to Vanessa, thanking her sister for getting her back on track. The apology is accepted and harmony is restored for girl's weekend!

Rev heads back to the offices to tell Russell that he's gotten Marquis Jet to donate free flight hours to the charity. Russell is very impressed and reassures Rev that he's done his job -- for this cycle. But he's still going to have to pull his weight all the time instead of once every five years. Still, for right now, Rev's got an "A" in charity!

After bringing Terry back to the apartment again, Angela and him have to face more teasing from big sister Vanessa. Terry teases right back, pointing out that Vanessa's just jealous that she can't jump on the bandwagon with them. Before the teasing can get too heated, Rev calls to check on the girls. For the first time, Angela refers to Terry as her boyfriend to Rev. He was calling to talk business, but decides to let Angela go back to hanging with her boyfriend.

Rev admits to Justine that this must be an important relationship for Angela -- he's never heard her refer to a boy as her boyfriend! He then confesses that Marquis Jet indeed talked him into buying more flight hours, just like she was worried they would. He defends his decision and Justine decides she's not angry with him -- so long as he uses the hours to take her to Hawaii!

"Are you pulling your own weight? We should all strive to. But even the best of us sometimes need a wakeup call. It's how you respond to that call that determines your value. So don't be lame, just step up your game! God is love!"

Ep. 8 | Operation Album Drop

Diggy lets Justine know that Rev's taking him and Russy to the skate park so he can "rip it up." He psyched, but gives Russy grief for only skateboarding because he did it first. Justine suggests that maybe Diggy's just worried that Russy will outshine him, but her point is lost when she messes up her skating lingo.

Rev bursts in and announces that JoJo and Team Blackout are about to appear on Sirius Satellite Radio with Dana Dane. Since they only have Satellite in the new truck, the family heads outside to listen from Justine's Sequoia.

From the studio in New York, Dana welcomes JoJo and his Team Blackout boys to the show. The boys are quick to plug the fact that they'll be performing soon at S.O.B.'s and encourage everyone to come out and "show the love." Unfortunately, the family has missed most of the interview because Rev has talked over the entire thing in an attempt to school Justine on the history of DJ Dana Dane. Rev tells everyone that if JoJo asks, they heard the entire interview.

Later on, Rev takes the boys to the Drop-In Skate Park so they can show off their skills. During a break, Rev asks Diggy how Russy's doing and Diggy comments that Russy's simply "not a skater." Russy brags that he's going to start his own skateboarding company called "the purple gorilla." However, when Diggy continues to insult Russy's skating abilities, Russy throws down his helmet and storms off.

When Team Blackout gets back to the Simmons' compound, Justine notices that they look bummed. The boys reveal that their label wants them to use a stage coach, or choreographer, to help out with their upcoming performance. Justine encourages them to be positive but JoJo and the guys aren't keen on the idea of incorporating dance moves into their rap show.

That night, Justine questions Rev about what he and Diggy said to Russy that's made him want to quit skating. Rev doesn't believe it -- the purple gorilla never quits! In all seriousness, Rev promises to take Russy skateboarding again the next day and lay off on the jokes. With one child taken care of, Justine voices her concerns over JoJo and the stage coach. At first, Rev thinks that the label has gotten Team Blackout an old school stage coach with horses. Once Justine clarifies that it's a coach for the stage, Rev agrees that most rappers don't need choreography but says he needs to step back and let Team Blackout and their label handle this matter. Of course, if it gets to a point that it's unbearable Rev will jump in like the good dad he is.

When Rev and Diggy try to get Russy to go the skate park, Russy is insistent that he's quit because Rev's "son's not taking him seriously." Diggy doesn't help the situation when he agrees that Russy doesn't skateboard and mocks his brother for taking up juggling instead. Rev brings up the purple gorilla, but Russy informs him that the purple gorilla is in the garbage and he's a clown now.

Team Blackout meets with their incredibly buff fitness and stage coach, Devron Wilson, but struggle to take the whole thing seriously. Devron claims that one of the most important aspects of a stage show is having unity, endurance and stamina. To help build these skills, Devron is going to have the boys run a few drills together, including sprints, backwards sprints and pushups. Devron insists that if Team Blackout can get to a place where they can do these exercises together in unison as well as rap, they'll have one awesome stage show. The boys, however, don't seem so convinced.

After another trip to the skate park, Rev raves about Diggy's skills on the board. Still, Rev feels bad about Russy's quitting and encourages Diggy to apologize. Diggy agrees, but thinks it's going to take more than an apology to get Russy back to the skate park -- like maybe a professional skater like Ryan Sheckler teach him some moves to remind Russy that he does love to skate!

Back at rehearsal, Devron is trying to get the boys to march in unison while doing some dance dips. Rev walks in and immediately notices how miserable the boys look. He thanks Devron for his time, but lets the stage coach know that he'll be running the show from now on. The boys are thrilled that Devron is gone, but Rev sticks around to give them some pointers of his own. Instead of unison, Rev encourages the boys to focus on their confidence and swagger; that's all they need to get the crowd pumped!

Having taken care of JoJo, Rev tells Justine of his master plan to get Diggy back on the board. He's taken Diggy's advice and has gotten Ryan Sheckler to make a trip to Drop-In Skate Park to pass on some wisdom to Russy.

The next day, Rev and Diggy try to encourage Russy to join them by chanting "skate park" over and over again. When Russy continues to leave them hanging, Rev starts up a mock violin and Diggy apologizes for his remarks. Russy accepts the apology but still refuses to go. After failing to convince Russy through guilt, Rev finally gets him to go by promising to buy him plenty of candy from the concession stand while Diggy "does his thing" on the skateboard.

Justine sneaks up to catch Team Blackout rehearsing. It takes some convincing, but Justine gets the boys to show her their moves to see if she can get into them. Unfortunately, the rehearsal stops after only a couple beats because Justine gets so into it that she starts dancing behind them and distracting JoJo.

When Rev and the boys arrive at the skate park, they run into none other than Life Of Ryan star Ryan Sheckler. Ryan immediately questions where Russy's skateboard is and tells the youngster that "skateboarders never quit." He instructs Russy to run into the skate shop and get some gear so that he can teach them some moves. This time, Russy's all too glad to oblige. After Ryan shows off some of his moves, he has Russy demonstrate his flips. When Russy gets a little tripped up, Ryan suggests that he try and keep his one foot from moving and sure enough, Russy is solid on his next attempt. Looks like someone's back in the skating game!

Soon it's time to head out to Team Blackout's big performance, but Justine doesn't seem as pumped as Rev is. She explains that it's not that she doesn't want to go -- but she doesn't want JoJo to think that she's smothering him either. Rev understands her predicament, especially since "dad the rapper" is already going. Besides, baby Miley would look pretty out of place at a club!

At S.O.B.'s, music producer RockWilder hits up the stage to introduce Team Blackout's performance. As the boys take the stage, Rev stands in the back and cheers them on like the proud papa he is. Once they're finished, he rushes the stage to congratulate the boys himself.

The next day, Rev drops in on Russy to remind him about "the champion spirit" -- the idea the winners never quit. After reveling in how awesome it was to spend some time with Ryan Sheckler, Rev revisits Russy's idea about having the "Purple Gorilla" skateboarding company. Rev agrees to try and help make this idea a reality, so long as Russy agrees not to quit on him again.

While talking to Justine, Rev reminds her that she needs to let JoJo do his own thing when it comes to Team Blackout. After all, JoJo's a real rapper now! Justine agrees, but asks Rev to write her some rhymes of her own. Rev tries to tell her that rappers are usually done after the age of forty -- until Justine reminds him that Rev's just been out on tour rapping himself!

"Are you resistant to receiving guidance? If so, you're only shortchanging yourself. There's nothing wrong with getting a little help to prepare you for life's challenges. Remember, many of life's proudest moments are served with a slice of humble pie. Bon appetite! God is love!"

Ep. 7 | Mole Beauty, Mole Problems

Angela and Vanessa go through some of Justine's old beauty shots, taking special note of the fake beauty mark she sported. Rev and Justine quickly join in and Justine reminisces about how much she loved that fake mole. When Justine suggests rocking the beauty mark again, Rev points out that those pictures were taken a long time ago...not exactly the response Justine was hoping for!

Before taking the boys to the orthodontist, Justine decides to try out the beauty mark again. She heard Rev's comments about how great she looked in the old pictures and the mole makes her feel that beautiful again. Rev, however, thinks it just makes Justine look like she's got an ant walking across her face.

The girls also take note of Justine's new beauty mark when she comes downstairs. She talks about how the boys used to touch her face and mess up the fake mole when they were younger and Vanessa and Angela see a solution to that problem: Justine should get a permanent beauty mark! Justine seems intrigued, but doesn't think Rev will go for it.

JoJo and Diggy pull out an old box from the basement and discover a croquet set. JoJo and Diggy are mystified by all the equipment, but Russy knows all the proper terms. When JoJo mentions their upcoming visit to the orthodontist, Diggy brags that he's getting his braces off but Russy might not be so lucky. Of course, the orthodontist hasn't confirmed this, but Diggy's certain he'll get his off first since he's older.

As fate would have it, Justine and the boys return home to let Rev know that one of the boys is getting his braces off. But just as Rev is congratulating Diggy, Russy jumps in and announces that he's the one who's braces are coming off. Diggy will only need his on for a few more months, but Russy relishes the rare opportunity to tease his older brother.

Later in bed, Justine brings up the idea of getting a permanent beauty mark. Rev hates the idea of getting a tattoo, but Justine insists that if they decide to get it done she'd be going to a beauty parlor and not a tattoo shop to have the procedure done.

Angela and Vanessa reminisce about the "little man" Diggy's become -- especially since the days when they changed his diapers, which doesn't exactly make Diggy feel manly! Russy barges into the room sporting a fake pair of lips and teeth, to tell his sisters the news about his braces. The girls realize that's why Diggy's seemed so bummed, but council him to let Russy be happy about the news.

Justine comes downstairs sporting several beauty marks, further befuddling Rev. She explains that she's trying to decide which one she'd want permanently and asks Rev which he likes best. Rev points out that if God had wanted her to have a mole, she'd have a mole. Still, Justine claims that after only two days of sporting the beauty marks, she already feels better about herself. But Rev's not budging on his anti-tattoo stance.

Diggy seeks advice from JoJo, who's experimenting with the croquet set in the backyard. Diggy admits that he really really wants his braces off too and that Russy's constant teasing is getting to him. JoJo thinks Diggy should just be patient and wait for his teeth to be perfect, but suggests his brother talk to Rev if he's really in need of advice.

When he goes to Rev, Diggy tries to play it off like Russy's not bothering him and he just really wants to get his braces off. Rev tells Diggy the same thing JoJo did -- that he has to be patient if he wants a straight and perfect smile. After all, what can Rev do about the situation? He's not an orthodontist!

Russy looks over some of the old pictures with Justine and asks her about the reappearing beauty mark. When she tells Russy she might get a permanent one, his response is "Oh my god, don't! Why do you want that fly on your face?" Rev is glad to have another family member on his side and urges Justine to really think about it before she makes the mole permanent. Justine holds up one of the old pictures and asks what Russy would think if she showed up at parent-teacher conferences looking that way. Like Rev, Russy points out that the picture was taken a long time ago but reassures his mom that she still "kind of " looks that way now.

Fed up with the mole situation, Rev asks Angela and Vanessa why they'd even suggest Justine get a permanent one. The girls claim they didn't talk Justine into anything, but that maybe their mom wants to "spice things up." They tell Rev that if he really wants to distract Justine from the mole, he needs to be "Rico Suave" and charm her with some romance. Rev doesn't like the girls interfering with his love life or suggesting that he's to blame for Justine's desire to get the mole. He doesn't need to be Rico Suave -- he's "Rev Rizzle!"

Russy's big day has finally arrived and of course, he continues to rub it in Diggy's face. Seeing Diggy's bummed expression, Justine gives him a kiss and promises that he'll be next. In an attempt to cheer him up, Rev takes Diggy to Ben and Jerry's for some ice cream. Diggy sulks for a while, but Rev shouts loud jokes over the noise of the blender until Diggy finally cracks a smile.

Rev and Diggy are telling the Ben and Jerry's story to the rest of the family when Russy returns with his hood pulled over his face in shame. Fortunately, he's just kidding around and quickly shows off his braces-free smile that even Diggy has to admire. JoJo encourages Russy to show off his pearly whites to Diggy even more, but Russy announces that he's not going to tease Diggy any more.

As Justine looks up picture of Cindy Crawford and her beauty mark, Rev comes in to give her a giant bouquet of flowers. She loves the flowers, but knows what Rev is up to. Rev admits that it's ultimately Justine's decision but that he really doesn't want her to get it because she doesn't need it. He even offers to take her out on the town and "spice things up" if that will help. Justine worries that Rev's doing "Jedi mind tricks" on her, but agrees to put the beauty mark on hold while they get the flowers in water.

Later that night, Rev ponders whether Diggy will be patient or if he might just try and remove the braces himself. Justine points out that if Diggy had gotten his braces off first, Russy would be doing the same thing. She then tells Rev that he was right about getting a permanent mole. Besides, she can always draw one on herself and continue to test out different spots for it.

"Is beauty more than skin deep? You bet it is. While physical attraction is pleasing to the eye, it's the beauty we can't see that's pleasing to the heart. Remember, there's nothing more attractive than inner-beauty. God is love."
